Hold for Pickup is a USPS special service that delivers a package to a USPS facility where it can be picked up by a specified recipient. When the package arrives at the pickup location, the USPS will send an email to the recipient to notify them that the package is available for pickup. To obtain the package, the recipient must present a valid ID matching the recipient information on the shipping label.

How to Print Hold for Pickup Labels

To Print a Label with Hold for Pickup, follow these instructions:

From the Stamps.com Software, go to the Packages or Batch tab.
On the Packages tab, enter return and delivery information. If selecting an address from the address book, make sure to print labels for only one recipient at a time.
Select a 4×6 shipping label such as plain paper or the SDC-1200 as your print media. When printing from Batch, this selection will occur after clicking print.

On the Packages tab, or from the advanced edit on Batch shipments, click on the Select button next to Additional Options. If this option is disabled, be sure to turn off Hidden Postage. To pull up the advanced edit for a batch shipment, select the order and click the Edit icon on the Batch ribbon menu.

Finish entering your mailpiece settings such as mailpiece, mail class, and weight. Note: Hold for Pickup can only be used with Priority Mail, Priority Mail Express, and First-Class Package Service.

Staples Joind Postal Service’s Approved Shipper Program

In an earlier post, I discussed a pilot program that was taking place in 82 Staples locations testing the feasibility of offering postal products and usps store hours services inside the office supply retailer. Based on the usps tracking number example information learned from the test, both the Postal Service and Staples have agreed to end the pilot. Taking a slightly different direction, the 82 Staples pilot locations will be transitioned into the U.S. Postal Service’s long established Approved Shipper Program.Customers who currently use one of the 82 Staples locations for their mailing and shipping needs can continue to do so, just as they had done during the pilot. The transition into the Approved Shipper Program at these locations will have no effect on the product offerings or the convenience of being able to ship and mail on nights and weekends.

So what is the difference between what was piloted under the nomenclature “The Retail Partner Expansion Program” and an Approved Shipper location?There are many differences; however one key difference is the non-exclusivity of postal products.The Approved Shipper Program allows for the USPS® to compete in the marketplace. In most cases, the retailer is offering a number of shipping products to their customers. In addition, the Approved Shipper Program does not prohibit the retailer from charging a convenience fee. However, some Approved Shippers chose to sell at USPS Retail rates.The USPS® has a long history of partnerships like these; in fact the Approved Shipper Program has been in place since 2005. USPS has done it again, for the 700th time.Recently USPS hit a milestone by opening the 700th Village Post Office (VPO) located in San Francisco District in Eureka, CA, inside Scrapper’s Edge The Copy Shop and Scrapbook Shop.Scrapper’s Edge, is the perfect place for residents and visitors to pickup stamps and mail letters, packages, memorable photos and postcards. Customers can also take care of their printing and business services while mailing and shipping at the new VPO.VPOs are usually located in established businesses giving them the added retail advantage of providing customers convenient access to the postal products and services used most often by consumers.Scraper’s Edge owner Sondra Kirtley joined Pacific Area Vice President Dean Granholm, San Francisco District Manager David Stowe and Eureka Postmaster Mary Hopkins, in cutting the grand-opening ribbon.The Scrapper’s Edge VPO will offer Forever stamps, prepaid packages and Priority Mail Flat Rate boxes.
